Attorneys Serving Greater Cedar Rapids, Iowa
At the law offices of Crawford, Sullivan, Read & Roemerman, P.C., we represent public employees and military personnel in a wide range of legal matters, from disciplinary actions and pension issues to family law and service discharge disputes. We have provided legal counsel to Iowa residents for more than 50 years.
Public Employee Benefits
Shareholder Bill Roemerman handles all cases involving the rights of public employees. Our clients include police officers, firefighters and other city, county and state workers.
The bulk of our public employee benefits practice centers on appeals for disciplinary actions under the civil service system. Under Iowa's civil service system, public employees who are discharged, suspended or demoted have an appeals process for contesting the disciplinary action.
Whether you were disciplined because of disagreements over procedure, criminal charges, political disagreements of other issues, we will handle the appeal and/or negotiate a termination agreement for you.
We also advise public employees who have legal concerns related to pensions or disability payments. We know that many public workers, such as police officers or firefighters, have their own system for addressing compensation for work-related injuries, separate from Iowa's workers' compensation laws. We handle all types of claims by injured public employees for compensation for workplace injuries.
We are also familiar with the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS). We handle a wide variety of pension claims, such as improper calculation of benefits or wrongful denial of benefits.
To set up a confidential consultation about public employee benefits, contact Bill Roemerman by e-mail or call (319) 364-0171.
Military Law
All of our military law matters are handled by attorney Peter Welch. Pete works on behalf of members of the armed services in a wide variety of civil matters. He does not practice in the UCMJ area or personal injury cases.
We focus our representation of military personnel on matters related to:
- Family law, divorce and custody
- Appeals of military discharges
- The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA)
- The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)
To set up a consultation about military law, contact Peter Welch by e-mail or call (319) 364-0171.
